Face and neck lift

Skin loses its elasticity and starts sagging during the aging process. The speed at which the skin of the face and neck starts to sag depends on the person’s genes, but excess sun also plays an important role here, as it considerably decreases the elasticity of tissue. Face and neck lifts are performed from 40 years of age and although they don’t stop the aging process, they do have a noticeable rejuvenating effect. Your skin looks tighter and smoother, making you look younger. The results of the surgery last for several years and it can be repeated if necessary.

Is a face and neck lift what I need?

  • Yes, it bothers me how saggy the skin of my face and neck has become.
  • Yes, I have loose skin under my chin.
  • Yes, I want to look younger and prettier.

If you have decided to have a face and neck lift, please book a consultation with our specialist where we will discuss your expectations and how they can be met with surgery.
During the consultation, which lasts about an hour, the doctor will give you a detailed description of what happens before and after the surgery as well as the surgery itself. We will make the necessary tests, ask you about your health and habits, and answer all of your questions. It is important for us to know about your allergies, smoking and other health-related habits.

Face and neck lift surgery

During a face and neck lift, the subcutaneous fatty and muscle tissue in the face and neck area is lifted and excess skin is removed. The surgery lasts from three to eight hours and it is always performed under general anaesthesia.

You will come to after the surgery in a couple of hours and spend the night in our clinic. Some pain in the face and neck area is normal, as you’ve just had surgery. You will be given painkillers if necessary. Although people have a different tolerance for pain, our patients usually don’t need painkillers for more than two days.

The surgeon will examine you the next day and give you a personal aftercare programme before discharging you from the clinic.

Wound care

Your face and neck area will be bandaged and sensitive after the surgery. You have to wear the bandage around your face and neck for a week both night and day.

It’s important to take particular care of your face and neck area for two months after the surgery. During this time we don’t advise you to stretch the scars, lift heavy items, exercise vigorously or go to the sauna. Although vigorous exercise is not advisable, moderate physical exercise helps improve circulation and speed up recovery.

Smoking causes wounds to heal considerably slower, which is why we advise you to quit smoking for at least a month before and after the surgery.

Scars

Unfortunately, it is impossible to make incisions without leaving scars, but the scars that look dark at first will fade and become less noticeable in time. We advise using the wound gels available in pharmacies to accelerate healing. Use silicone bandages, which are also sold in pharmacies, to avoid keloid.

We advise you to protect yourself from direct sunlight for a couple of months after the surgery, because the influence of sun radiation on the skin pigment may turn the scar darker and more noticeable.

Final result

The result of a neck and face lift is durable and lasts for as many as 8 to 10 years. You can then have another face and neck lift to keep looking younger and prettier.

Your skin will be sensitive for some time after surgery, but the wounds will heal and sensitivity will decrease. You can return to your ordinary routine after about two weeks, but the final result of surgery will be visible after a couple of months. However, you will look considerably more youthful and beautiful just a week after the surgery.

"I definitely recommend Dr. Tiia Tamme in the Nordic Medical Center. He is the best doctor I know. Office staff and patient coordinator is easy to communicate with. I had the face and neck lift to remove the years of my face. I couldn't be happier with the results."
